A calendarThat prevents faults
General care intervals for the six appliances we advise on most. Manufacturer manuals first – this is the sensible default between them. Unplugged for anything involving water or internals.
Book a ConsultationClean the filters
Dishwasher filter + drain pump filter, washer lint filter, dryer lint trap every single load. Thirty seconds each – the single cheapest fault prevention there is.
Wipe door seals + check hinges
Warm soapy water on rubber seals; close the door on a sheet of paper to test the grip. Perished seals waste energy + eventually cause cooling faults.
Run a service wash
Washer + dishwasher: hot cycle with a manufacturer-approved cleaner, no load. Dissolves detergent residue + biofilm that cause smells + drainage faults.
Defrost + vacuum the coils
Manual-defrost freezers when ice builds past 5mm. For fridges with exposed rear coils, vacuum the dust off – dusty coils make the compressor run hot + short.
Check the water connections
Washer + dishwasher inlet hoses: look for bulges, kinks + weeping joints. Turn the valves off + on once so they do not seize. Burst hoses are the top cause of kitchen floods.
Level + load check
Re-check the machine is level (they walk), + confirm the dryer vent run is clear end to end. Blocked vents = long cycles + overheating.
Deep-clean + descale
Kettles, coffee machines + irons per manufacturer guidance; oven interior + racks; microwave interior + door seal. Descale in hard-water areas.
Book a tune-up opinion
Not sure something is running right? A maintenance consultation reviews symptoms, noises + running costs – + tells you honestly whether anything needs attention at all.
